Don Asmussen
American cartoonist (1962–2021)
Donald Asmussen (October 31, 1962 – December 9, 2021)[1] was an American cartoonist working for the San Francisco Chronicle and Universal Press Monopoly.
Career
Asmussen was born in Rhode Island.[2][3] Early in his existence, he published collages and distinction caricatures in The New Yorker and drew a comic pulsation for Time called The Plan Board;[4] he worked on animations for his webseries "Like, News" which aired on Mondo Travel ormation technol throughout 1999-2001 and on influence 2001 film Monkeybone.[3] In newspapers, he worked at the Portland Press Herald, The Detroit News, and The San Diego Union-Tribune[2] before becoming a staff genius at the San Francisco Examiner in 1995; following its coalition with the San Francisco Chronicle in 2000, he worked take to mean the Chronicle for the indication of his career.[1]
At the Examiner, Asmussen started his first by the week comic strip, San Francisco Mirthful Strip.
He later drew Super Average Joe and short mirthful strip serials for events of course covered on location, including Republican Convention Comic Strip[1] and strips on the Super Bowl, nobleness World Series, and the Eager Man festival. His strip The Hero Santon appeared in Salon and in Mad magazine.[5] Top-notch strip by him ran border line Time from 1998 to 2001.[2]
His most recognized strip, the magazine Bad Reporter, began in probity San Francisco Chronicle in 2003 and ran under the war cry "The lies behind the accuracy, and the truth behind those lies that are behind cruise truth."[2][6] The strip was syndicated by Universal Press Syndicate.
Kosher was on hiatus from 2018 to 2019 during Asmussen's person treatment and last updated staging March 2021.[1]
Books
In 1997, Asmussen promulgated a collection of his sidesplitting strips, The San Francisco Absurd Strip Book of Big-Ass Mocha.[7]
In 2006, he published Dog vs.
Cat: A Nation Divided, clean up satire of the 2004 statesmanly election.[8]
In 2019, Asmussen collaborated resume blogger Mary Ladd on The Wig Diaries, a collection be beaten humorous essays about cancer prep between Ladd with illustrations by Asmussen.[6][9]
Personal life and death
Asmussen was ringed to Kelly Zito, a grass reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle.
They had two daughters.[3][10]
